We wanted to take a closer more in-depth look at our Guide Kayak Tours around Combe Martin and what they entail.

A Guided kayak tour is for you if you want to experience a kayaking trip with the reassurance of having a fully qualified and experienced guide to lead and if you do get into any problems he will be there to quickly and efficiently sort them out. Leaving you free to fully enjoy your kayaking adventure.

The first question to be answered is “are the kayak tours suitable for everyone”? The simple answer is yes almost anyone can manage a kayak tour.  There is a guided kayak tour to suit almost everyone, for novices or families with young children we would suggest our one hour tour. This includes an introduction to kayaking, including safety, equipment, launching, landing and paddling. We cover all the basics and take you on a one hour fun filled paddle along our beautiful coastline with loads of information provided about the area that you are kayaking in.

Our two hour guided kayak tour offers the same introduction and safety brief along with two hours of paddling. These tours are our most popular excursion. We get to paddle further along the coastline of Combe Martin bay stopping periodically to learn some of the facts and history that make this area so special. Our coastline is over 400million years old and we have some very unusual rock formations. As we paddle out we have the Exmoor national park on our right hand side boasting some of the highest sea cliffs in mainland Britain. Wildlife is unpredictable and does not appear on cue but we have regular sightings of Dolphin and Porpoise, Sunfish and seals along with varied birdlife including Oyster catchers, Cormorant, Fulmars and even Peregrine falcons. As we head further along the coast we visit Broadsands beach which was featured in The Sunday Times travel section, from there we head off to discover the caves and if the tide is right we can paddle through one. After visiting the caves and getting that special holiday photo it is time to head for home again stopping along the way to share more stories of the area.

Whichever tour you choose your first port of call is our shop Surfside on the high street in Combe Martin 50mtrs from the beach, where you will be warmly greeted by a team member. After you are booked in you will be shown into our changing room and fitted out with wetsuit and buoyancy aid. Your personal belongings will be locked safely away and you are ready to walk the 2minutes to the beach where your kayaks are ready and waiting for you along with another team member who will assist you with launching.

I hope this inspires you to join one of our Kayak tours and experience why we are rated as one of “The must-do activities in Devon”.
